Review Publisher layout after PDF conversion

Check the visual details that can differ when a publishing document is imported into another drawing engine.

Check page count and placement

Start with the reported page count and page dimensions. Compare them with the original publication when you have access to it. The preview draws the actual produced PDF to a canvas; it does not display a screenshot of the input or a generic success image. Use the page controls to inspect more than just the first page.

Look for missing pages, unexpected blank areas, cropped pictures and objects shifted beyond the page edge. A brochure or folded publication may depend on a particular page order and physical sheet arrangement. This converter reports document pages and does not perform booklet imposition, printer calibration or production-preflight certification.

Inspect typography and linked assets

Different font availability can change line breaks, text-box overflow, headings and alignment. Compare a long paragraph, a tightly fitted title and any decorative text. Embedded or linked graphics, transparency effects and color handling may also differ between Publisher and the imported drawing document. A readable PDF is not proof that those details are identical.

The importer is configured not to execute macros or update document links. That is deliberate: the workflow does not fetch missing external assets to reconstruct a publication. If a linked image or unavailable font is essential, obtain it through the source document’s normal workflow and make a controlled desktop export with the necessary resources installed.

Separate review from final approval

Download the PDF and inspect it in the viewer or production application that will be used by the recipient. Check representative small text at normal viewing size and enlarged view, then examine the output settings required by a printer or publisher. The desk does not label an ordinary PDF as PDF/X, archival PDF or a certified print-ready file.

Keep the unchanged PUB together with the conversion report. The report records the runtime source, observed build, exporter and page geometry; it does not establish visual fidelity. If a page looks wrong, return to the original rather than editing a flattened PDF under the assumption that all Publisher objects survived. Exact object editing and native PUB saving remain jobs for an appropriate desktop application.
